Zero Waste - No Nasties - Gorgeous Hair

Tips for using shampoo bars: Wet your hair and rub the bar over the hair to create a creamy lather. You will need to use plenty of water. If you feel there isn’t enough lather, just add more water! Some people like to use a diluted cider vinegar as a conditioning rinse. Put a splash of vinegar in a jug of water and use it after rinsing all of the shampoo out of your hair. As you pour it over your hair you will notice how your hair becomes immediately soft and silky. Then do a final rinse. Avoid contact with eyes as it will sting. If you get it in your eyes rinse with plenty of water.

Good to know: If you are using an all-natural shampoo bar for the first time, it may take some time for your hair and scalp to get used to it as it goes through a period of “detox”. It takes a while for the chemicals that have built up on your hair to be washed out and your scalp may also take some time to get back to producing its natural amount of sebum again. During this time your hair may feel “gunky”, greasy, dull or drier than usual. Please persevere – it’ll be worth it! Please be aware that not all shampoo bars are natural. Most of the round discs made with little noodles may contain chemicals (e.g. SLS) which are found in many liquid shampoos and not only terrible for you, but also the aquatic system.

I think that the seaweed shampoo bar is just great, but I was horrified at how quickly it wears away. I was so pleased at the rich foam that I developed that I kept rubbing it on to my skull. But my hair was so abrasive that I rubbed a deep concave bowl into the bar, almost wearing a hole in the bar! But I’ve had to train myself to “ca canny”. Just more or less touch the bar against my scalp. But nevertheless, I enjoy using it and it makes my hair soft, fine, clean and shiny.

    Wonderful Scottish Raspberry Shampoo Bar

I bought both the Scottish Raspberry and Seaweed Shampoo bars recently. Haven't tried the Seaweed yet, but looking forward to it. But the Scottish Raspberry is wonderful. Easy to use and smells wonderful, had no problem with the transition as I didn't use chemical shampoos before this. Lathers well and leaves my menopausal fine hair full of body and lovely and soft, and also bringing out hints of red. Will definitely be buying this again!

Lovely Shampoo Bar but getting quite pricey

I really like the Shampoo Bars however, in just over 3 years these have increased by ~51%. I appreciate supply chain costs etc have increased but I do wonder how much longer I can afford to buy these as they have become a real luxury item.

Hi Kay, cocoa butter is a key ingredient in our shampoo bars and has gone up considerably over the last few years, as has shea butter and olive oil. You may have noticed the price of chocolate going up a bit too. They last much longer than shampoo bottles and we hope they are worth it. Best wishes, The Highland Soap Co
